Goggles Face Shields

Goggles and face shields are personal protective equipment that help protect the eyes, face, and mucous membranes from clinical hazards such as liquid splashes, droplets, and sprays. Goggles form a closer seal around the eyes, while face shields create a transparent barrier across the face; together, they limit direct contact with potentially infectious or irritating materials and can reduce contamination of the skin and eyes. In clinical settings, these devices support standard and transmission-based precautions during procedures that may generate splashes or aerosols, complementing other protective measures such as masks, gloves, gowns, and hand hygiene. Proper selection, fit, cleaning, and safe removal help maintain their protective value.

Diamagnetic Shielding of Nuclei: Local Diamagnetic Current

2024

An applied magnetic field causes the electrons present in the molecule to circulate, setting up a local diamagnetic current within the molecule. The local diamagnetic current arising from circulating sigma-bonding electrons induces a magnetic field, Blocal that opposes the applied magnetic field, B0. The effective magnetic field experienced by these nuclei is given by the difference between the applied and local magnetic fields in a phenomenon called local diamagnetic shielding. Essentially,...

2018

With the advent of small, low-cost environmental sensors, it is now possible to deploy high-density networks of sensors to measure hyper localized temperature variation. Here, we provide a detailed methodology for constructing a compact version of a previously described custom-fabricated radiation shield for use with inexpensive thermochrons.

2015

Vertebral stabilization is necessary for minimizing variability, and for producing consistent experimental spinal cord injuries. Using a customized stabilizing apparatus in conjunction with the NYU/MASCIS impactor device, we have demonstrated here the proper equipment and procedure for generating reproducible hemi-contusive cervical (C5) spinal cord injuries in adult rats.
