Cell Venting

Cell venting is the controlled release of gases or pressure from an enclosed electrochemical cell, helping prevent casing rupture and other failures during operation. In batteries, chemical reactions, overcharging, elevated temperature, aging, or internal faults can generate gas and increase internal pressure; a vent, pressure-relief valve, or rupture disk opens when pressure reaches a designed threshold, directing gases away from vulnerable components. Engineers use cell venting to improve battery safety, manage failure behavior, and support reliable pack design. Vent placement, opening pressure, gas direction, and containment are evaluated through testing and modeling, particularly for high-energy lithium-ion systems.

Fabrication of a Master Mold for Microneedles with a Micron-sized Air-vent Hole

2025

This article introduces a unique method for fabricating master molds with an air-vent hole to prevent air entrapment during viscous polymer casting, enabling the fabrication of gelatin microneedles with sharp tips. By reducing the casting volume of high-viscosity gelatin, thin-walled hollow pyramidal microneedles could also be fabricated.

Design and Optimization Strategies of a High-Performance Vented Box

Here, we present the range analysis method to optimize the sample points generated by an orthogonal experimental design to ensure that fresh food can be stored in a vented box for a long time by regulating the airflow pattern.

Point-of-Care Ultrasound for Peripheral Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Without Left Ventricular Venting

This protocol outlines the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to monitor patients on peripheral veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) without left ventricular venting. It evaluates left ventricular distension, intracardiac or aortic root thrombus, and identifies useful cardiac POCUS parameters for weaning from V-A ECMO.

Endothelial colony forming progenitor cells (ECFCs) are a promising tool to study vascular homeostasis and repair.1,2 This paper introduces a novel animal-serum free method for isolation and expansion of ECFC from heparinised adult human peripheral blood with pooled human platelet lysate (pHPL) diminishing the risk of anti-bovine immunisation.

Automated Cell Enrichment of Cytomegalovirus-specific T cells for Clinical Applications using the Cytokine-capture System

The goal of this protocol is to manufacture pathogen-specific clinical-grade T cells using a bench-top, automated, second generation cell enrichment device that incorporates a closed cytokine capture system and does not require dedicated staff or use of a GMP facility. The cytomegalovirus pp65-specific-T cells generated can be directly administered to patients.
