Resolution Analysis

Resolution analysis is the evaluation of how effectively a measurement system, instrument, model, or display can distinguish closely spaced features or small changes in a signal. It works by relating the smallest detectable difference to factors such as sampling rate, measurement uncertainty, spatial or temporal scale, and instrument response. In engineering, resolution analysis helps assess sensors, imaging systems, manufacturing inspections, and numerical simulations, revealing whether a system can capture the detail needed for reliable decisions. The results support equipment selection, experimental design, system optimization, and interpretation of data by separating genuine features from artifacts or limitations imposed by measurement conditions.

Budding yeast is an advantageous model for studying microtubule dynamics in vivo due to its powerful genetics and the simplicity of its microtubule cytoskeleton. The following protocol describes how to transform and culture yeast cells, acquire confocal microscopy images, and quantitatively analyze microtubule dynamics in living yeast cells.
