Ecotoxicity Test

An ecotoxicity test is a laboratory or field assessment that measures how chemical substances, pollutants, or environmental conditions affect living organisms and ecosystems. It typically exposes representative species, such as algae, invertebrates, plants, or fish, to defined concentrations and evaluates endpoints including survival, growth, reproduction, behavior, or physiological change, often using dose-response relationships. These tests help identify harmful effects, estimate environmental risk, establish regulatory thresholds, and guide chemical management, wastewater treatment, and pollution prevention. By linking contaminant exposure to biological outcomes, ecotoxicity testing supports evidence-based protection of biodiversity and ecosystem health.

In this work, we describe an acute, chronic and multigenerational bioassay to study the effects of single and combined stressors on the Turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri. This protocol is designed to study life-history traits (mortality, growth, fecundity, weight) and critical thermal maximum.

This work describes a new protocol to assess the ecotoxicity of pollutants, including emerging contaminants such as nanomaterials, using the marine bacterium Vibrio anguillarum. This method allows for the determination of the LC50, or mortality, the concentration that causes a 50% decrease in bacteria culturability, after a 6 h exposure.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.

Microbial Control and Monitoring Strategies for Cleanroom Environments and Cellular Therapies

The protocol summarizes the best practices to minimize microbial bioburden in a cleanroom environment and includes strategies such as environmental monitoring, process monitoring, and product sterility testing. It is relevant for manufacturing and testing facilities that are required to meet current good tissue practice standards and current good manufacturing practice standards.

Subsurface Defect Localization by Structured Heating Using Laser Projected Photothermal Thermography

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.
