Clinical Disease Scoring

Clinical disease scoring is a structured method for quantifying disease severity, symptom burden, or treatment response using predefined clinical findings and measurable outcomes. It works by assigning standardized values, and sometimes weighted scores, to features such as physical signs, functional changes, laboratory results, or pathogen-associated manifestations, allowing observations to be combined into a reproducible assessment. In immunology and infection research, these scores help compare disease progression among patients or experimental groups, evaluate immune-mediated pathology, and assess responses to antimicrobial or immunomodulatory interventions. Consistent scoring improves data interpretation, supports statistical analysis, and strengthens comparisons across clinical studies.

This video demonstrates the induction and clinical scoring of an animal model of multiple sclerosis: chronic-relapsing experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in DA rats. The disease, induced by immunizing rats with an emulsion containing whole rat spinal cord and complete Freund's adjuvant, presents clinical signs resembling the human disease.

2025

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) progressively impairs multiple body systems due to the accumulation of uremic toxins, which disrupt cellular functions across various organs.Neurologic symptomsNeurologic symptoms often arise early in CKD, as uremic toxin buildup drives changes in cognitive and motor functions. Patients frequently experience fatigue, headache, confusion, difficulty concentrating, and, in severe cases, seizures. Peripheral neuropathy commonly manifests as burning sensations in the...

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a primary health risk worldwide, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. The condition arises from the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques within the coronary arteries, resulting in diminished blood supply to the heart muscle. The clinical manifestations of CAD vary widely, from asymptomatic stages to severe, life-threatening conditions. Understanding these manifestations is crucial for early diagnosis and effective management.Angina Pectoris: The Warning...
