Aortic Stenosis Model

An aortic stenosis model is a clinical, computational, or experimental representation of narrowing at the aortic valve, a condition that restricts blood leaving the left ventricle and supports research into disease progression and treatment. The model reproduces key features of stenosis, such as reduced valve opening, increased resistance to forward flow, pressure overload, and compensatory ventricular remodeling. In medicine, aortic stenosis models help investigators examine hemodynamics, evaluate diagnostic measures, compare medical or interventional strategies, and interpret how changes in valve function affect cardiac performance. These models also support education and may improve the design and assessment of transcatheter or surgical valve therapies.

An appropriate animal model is needed to understand the pathologic mechanisms underlying aortic valve stenosis (AVS) and to evaluate the efficacy of therapeutic interventions. The present protocol describes a new procedure for developing the AVS rabbit model via a direct balloon injury in vivo.

Histological and biochemical modifications after aneurysm endograft exclusion are still unclear. We describe a new model of endograft implantation on a murine aneurysm. Through thrombus analysis with and without persistant circulating blood stream interface, and new endovascular biomaterials evaluation, this model will help to better understand endovascular aneurysm exclusion pathobiology.

An aortocaval fistula was created by puncturing the murine infra-renal aorta through both walls into the inferior vena cava and was followed by creation of a stenosis in its outflow via partial ligation of the inferior vena cava. This reproducible model can be used to study central venous stenosis.
