Endometriosis Infertility

Endometriosis infertility is difficulty conceiving associated with endometriosis, a chronic condition in which endometrium-like tissue grows outside the uterus and causes cyclical inflammation. Inflammatory signaling, pelvic adhesions, and distorted anatomy can interfere with ovulation, egg and sperm transport, fertilization, or implantation, while ovarian endometriomas may affect ovarian function and reserve. Evaluation combines reproductive history, imaging, and, when indicated, laparoscopy, with management tailored to symptoms, age, disease extent, and pregnancy goals; options may include surgery and assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization. Understanding these mechanisms supports earlier referral, individualized counseling, and research into fertility-preserving treatments.

Infertility in Males

2024

Male infertility affects millions of couples worldwide, arising from various factors that impact different stages of the reproductive process. An endocrine imbalance resulting from conditions like hypogonadism, Klinefelter syndrome, or pituitary disorders can disrupt hormone levels and reduce sperm production. Testicular defects, such as tumors, cryptorchidism, atrophic testes, abnormal sperm morphology, and low sperm count or motility, may arise due to genetic factors, structural...

Female infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse and affects about 10–15% of couples worldwide. The primary cause of female infertility is ovulatory disorders, which hinder the release of eggs. These disorders can be classified as hypothalamic amenorrhea, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian failure, and hyperprolactinemic anovulation disorders. Endometriosis, a condition characterized by abnormal growth of endometrial...

Many rodent models of endometriosis are limited by technical complexity, reproducibility, and/or need for immunocompromised animals or special reporter mice. We present a simplified system of lesion induction using any experimental mouse with an independently verifiable, objective scoring system and with no requirement for ovariectomy or survival surgery.
