Rat Cardiovascular Model

A rat cardiovascular model is an experimental system that uses rats to study the structure, function, and disorders of the heart and blood vessels, providing insights relevant to human medicine. Researchers assess cardiovascular responses by measuring variables such as blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac function, and vascular reactivity under controlled physiological or disease-related conditions. These models can reproduce features of hypertension, heart failure, ischemia, and other cardiovascular disorders, allowing investigators to examine disease mechanisms and evaluate potential drugs or interventions. Their relatively accessible anatomy, established laboratory protocols, and measurable physiological outcomes make them valuable for preclinical cardiovascular research.

Cholestasis is a clinical condition commonly encountered by both surgeons and gastroenterologists. Creation of a reversible cholestatic rat model can be challenging in view of the smaller size and unique hepatopancreatobiliary anatomy in rats. This video article demonstrates the creation of a reversible cholestatic model.
