Resin Composite Restoration

Resin composite restoration is a tooth-colored dental treatment that repairs decayed, fractured, or otherwise damaged tooth structure while preserving natural tissue and restoring function and appearance. The procedure uses a resin matrix reinforced with glass or ceramic filler particles; after the material is placed and shaped, light-activated polymerization converts monomers into a hardened network, while an adhesive interface bonds the composite to enamel and dentin. Clinicians commonly place composites incrementally to improve adaptation and contour before finishing and polishing the restoration. This minimally invasive approach supports conservative caries management and esthetic rehabilitation, although long-term performance depends on bonding, moisture control, occlusal forces, and maintenance.

A Standardized In Vitro Procedure For Evaluating Surface Microhardness Changes In Nanohybrid Resin Composites After Whey Protein Beverage Exposure

2026

This protocol describes a standardized in vitro method for evaluating the effects of whey protein beverages on resin composite microhardness. The approach enables controlled assessment of dietary exposure using cyclic immersion and Vickers testing, providing a reproducible model for investigating the interaction between nutritional beverages and restorative biomaterials.

Experimental Implementation of a New Composite Fabrication Method: Exposing Bare Fibers on the Composite Surface by the Soft Layer Method

A protocol to expose bare fibers on the composite surface by eliminating resin rich area is presented. The fibers are exposed during fabrication of the composites, not by the post surface treatment. The exposed carbon composites exhibit high electrical conductivity in the through-thickness direction and high mechanical property.

Source: Schaeffer, J. W., Chandler, et al. Detection of Viruses from Bioaerosols Using Anion Exchange Resin. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the detection of viruses from bioaerosols using an anion exchange resin. A liquid impinger containing the resin is used to capture viruses from the air. The resin is collected and treated with a virus lysis buffer containing carrier RNA. The lysate is transferred to a microcentrifuge tube for viral RNA isolation, followed by qRT-PCR to amplify...
