Sod-1 Expression

SOD1 expression is the regulated production of superoxide dismutase 1, an antioxidant enzyme that protects cells from oxidative stress and is especially relevant to neuronal health. The SOD1 gene is transcribed into messenger RNA and translated into protein, which catalyzes the conversion of superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen; cellular systems then process hydrogen peroxide into less harmful products. In neuroscience, measuring SOD1 expression helps researchers assess oxidative-stress responses, neuronal injury, and mechanisms associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Expression studies also support investigations of mutant SOD1, motor-neuron vulnerability, disease progression, and potential therapeutic strategies.

This study developed a noninvasive and real-time method to evaluate the distribution of programmed death-ligand 1 in the whole body, based on positron emission tomographic imaging of [68Ga] D-dodecapeptide antagonist. This technique has advantages over conventional immunohistochemistry and improves the efficiency of identifying appropriate patients who will benefit from immune checkpoint blockade therapy.
