Blood Level Monitoring

Blood level monitoring is the measurement of a drug’s concentration in the bloodstream to assess exposure and guide safe, effective treatment. In pharmacology, clinicians collect blood samples at defined times, often near peak or trough concentrations, and interpret results using pharmacokinetic principles such as absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination. Comparing measured levels with a therapeutic range can support individualized dose adjustment, particularly for medicines with narrow safety margins or substantial variation between patients. This approach helps identify inadequate exposure, accumulation, potential toxicity, and adherence concerns, improving the balance between therapeutic benefit and adverse effects while informing clinical research on drug disposition.

Source: Galenchik-Chan, A., et al. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) of the Visual Cortex with Wide-View Retinotopic Stimulation. J. Vis. Exp. (2023). The video demonstrates functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the visual cortex to map activity based on blood oxygenation levels. Structural MRI images are acquired as anatomical references, followed by fMRI scans. Visual stimuli are displayed to activate retinotopic neurons in the visual cortex. The increased energy demand...

Errors occurring during blood pressure monitoring

2024

Blood pressure monitoring is a crucial clinical procedure in diagnosing and managing various cardiovascular conditions. Despite its significance, the accuracy of blood pressure measurements can be compromised by multiple factors, potentially leading to either falsely high or low readings. These inaccuracies are critical as they can significantly impact patient care. So, it is vital to understand these challenges deeply and adopt strategic approaches to minimize errors. Several factors...
