Inner Thoughts

Inner thoughts are private mental experiences, including self-talk, mental images, memories, interpretations, and feelings, that shape how people understand themselves and their surroundings. In psychology, they arise through interacting cognitive processes such as attention, memory, language, and appraisal, which continuously interpret internal and external information and influence conscious awareness, emotion, and behavior. Studying inner thoughts supports research on metacognition, decision-making, identity, and emotional regulation, while clinical approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy use awareness and evaluation of recurring thought patterns to help address distress and develop more adaptive responses.
