“Induja Perumal Vanaja is a Cardiovascular Scientist who completed her PhD in Translational Specialistic Medicine at the University of Padova, Italy, as an MSCA-COFUND doctoral fellow. Her doctoral research focused on Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (ACM), a genetic cardiac disease associated with stress-induced arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. During her PhD, she contributed to the characterization of a knock-in mouse model of Desmoplakin cardiomyopathy. Using this model and an additional ACM model, she investigated ACM as a multicellular disease, with particular emphasis on sympathetic neuronal involvement and autonomic remodeling, alongside the structural and electrophysiological substrates that promote arrhythmogenesis. With a multidisciplinary background in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Electronics, and Cardiovascular Science, her research experience spans preclinical cardiovascular research, combining animal models, cellular and molecular approaches, advanced imaging, quantitative analysis, computational modelling, image/signal processing, and programming. Her research work has been published in cardiovascular and physiology journals, and she has presented her work at multiple international conferences. Her interdisciplinary training has shaped her interest in translating complex scientific discoveries into clear and engaging scientific communication. At JoVE, she aims to discover emerging areas of research, connect with scientists across disciplines, and help bring scientific discoveries to the wider research community. Outside of her scientific endeavours, she loves travelling with her husband, exploring nature- filled destinations, learning about different cultures, and trying different cuisines. In her free time, she enjoys reading, particularly thrillers, drawing, and listening to music. induja.vanaja@jove.com”
