Salma Essam Said, Ph.D.

Salma holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and earned both her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Cairo University, Egypt. Her master’s research investigated genetic variants associated with pediatric-onset autoimmune hepatitis, while her Ph.D. work focused on the molecular mechanisms of neuroinflammation and demyelination in multiple sclerosis. She then moved into a postdoctoral research position in neuroscience at the University of Toyama in Japan, exploring the modulatory effects of sleep on emotional memory processing. With a diverse background and a passion for science communication, she is excited to engage with scientists from different disciplines. Outside of work, Salma is an avid reader of novels, a live music enthusiast, and loves spending quality time with her pets. salma.essam@jove.com
