Wael is a molecular biologist specializing in gene regulation, signal transduction, and RNA biology. He received his PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he studied bacterial two-component signaling networks. He later worked at Tufts University investigating exoribonuclease functions in the torpedo model of transcription termination in yeast. His research has led to discoveries in phospho-regulation of the Elongator complex in tRNA wobble U34 modification and co-transcriptional splicing control involving Mediator and decayosome complexes in ribosomal protein gene expression.
