She attained her PhD from the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences of the VU University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Since 2004, she has worked as a senior researcher at Reade, Center for Rehabilitation and Rheumatology in Amsterdam. In 2009 she was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Center of Human Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen. Dr. De Groot's current research interests include the study of spinal cord injury rehabilitation, exercise physiology, wheelchair propulsion and configuration, and adapted sports.
