Gold Electroplating

Gold electroplating is an electrochemical method that deposits a thin, adherent layer of gold onto a conductive surface, improving its conductivity, chemical stability, and resistance to corrosion. During the process, the surface acts as the cathode in a gold-containing electrolyte, and an applied electric current reduces dissolved gold ions onto it; coating thickness and uniformity depend on factors such as current density, plating time, and solution composition. In biology, gold-plated electrodes and substrates support biosensors, electrochemical assays, and other laboratory devices by providing stable interfaces for detecting biological molecules, measuring cellular activity, or integrating conductive components into research systems.
