Vernier Caliper

A Vernier caliper is a precision measuring instrument used to determine the external and internal dimensions, depth, and thickness of objects more accurately than a standard ruler. It works through a sliding Vernier scale: the alignment between its graduated markings and the main scale provides a fractional measurement beyond the smallest main-scale division. In biology, researchers use Vernier calipers to measure specimens, anatomical structures, seeds, bones, insects, and growth-related changes while minimizing measurement uncertainty. These quantitative observations support morphological comparisons, species identification, developmental studies, and experimental analysis where consistent size data are essential.

Murine Sciatic Nerve Model of Perineural Invasion or PNI: Extraction and Processing of Sciatic Nerve to Understand Invasion by Cancer Cells

2025

In this video, we describe the procedure to establish a murine model of perineural invasion by injecting cancer cells into the sciatic nerve. The model can help gain an understanding of the magnitude of nerve invasion for subsequent assessment of anti-cancer drugs.

Production and Testing of Moisture Behavior and Thermal Properties of Rapeseed Straw and Ganoderma resinaceum Mycelium Bio-Composites

Here, we present an optimized methodology for producing mycelium-based composites (MBCs) from petrochemicals and polluting materials for thermal insulation applications. To become carbon-neutral and sustainable, biobased and compostable materials like mycelium bio-composite could be the solution. To determine if they meet the construction standards, several experiments were conducted.

Q Suture Technique: A Suturing Technique to Reduce Gap Formation and Increase Tensile Strength in Tendon Repair

2025

In this video, we demonstrate suturing techniques — core suture and Q suture — to repair the foot flexor tendon in an ex vivo porcine model. Q sutures enhance the strength of the core suture in tendon repair and decrease gapping at the tendon repair site.

Electrochemotherapy is the local treatment of solid tumors. The main mechanism is electroporation-mediated permeabilization of the tumor cells' membrane which enables increased internalization of cytostatics like bleomycin and cisplatin. Thus, antitumor effectiveness is potentiated at the site of the application of electric pulses to the tumors.
