Transducer Selection

Transducer selection is the process of choosing a sensor or energy-conversion device that matches a measurement task, a critical decision for accurate and reliable clinical data. In medical ultrasound, the transducer converts electrical pulses into sound waves and returning echoes into signals; its frequency, bandwidth, aperture, and footprint influence resolution, penetration depth, field of view, and access to anatomical regions. Clinicians therefore select linear, curved, or phased-array designs according to the target tissue, imaging depth, patient anatomy, and examination type. Appropriate selection improves image quality, supports diagnostic interpretation, and helps clinicians perform procedures with greater precision.

2023

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fluid pressure is an important flow characteristic that is required to determine the aerodynamics of a system. One of the oldest and still existing pressure measurement systems is the manometer due to its accuracy and simplicity of operation. The manometer is generally a U-shaped glass tube that is partially filled with liquid, as shown in Figure 1. The U-tube manometer requires no...

In this protocol we describe production, purification and titration of lentiviral vectors. We provide an example of lentiviral vector-mediated gene delivery in primary cultured neurons and astrocytes. Our methods may also apply to other cell types in vitro and in vivo.

Natural Selection - Concepts

Fitness Widespread variation of phenotypes in natural populations provides the raw material for evolution, which is the change in the inherited traits of populations over successive generations. Natural selection is one of the main mechanisms of evolution and requires variable traits to be heritable and associated with differential survival and/or reproductive success. Phenotypes that correlate with greater success will have more offspring that survive to reproduce in the next generation, and...
