Monte Carlo Studies

Monte Carlo studies are computational investigations that use repeated random sampling to estimate how uncertainty affects a system, model, or engineering design. By assigning probability distributions to uncertain inputs and running many simulated trials, the method produces a range of possible outcomes rather than relying on a single deterministic prediction; statistical summaries then quantify likelihood, variability, and risk. Engineers apply Monte Carlo studies to reliability analysis, tolerance assessment, safety evaluation, cost estimation, and performance optimization. The results help compare design alternatives, identify influential variables, and support decisions when measurements, operating conditions, or material properties are uncertain.

Integrating Automated Simulation Workflows with 3D Visualization for Virtual Experiments in the Metaverse

2026

A generalized, FAIR-compliant method is presented for domain-expert researchers seeking to integrate simulation and data-processing tools into automated workflows for 3D virtual experiments. A neutronics example demonstrates setting up a local Galaxy instance, wrapping OpenMC and file-conversion tools, launching workflows from Omniverse, and visualizing the converted 3D outputs.

Transport Properties of Ibuprofen Encapsulated in Cyclodextrin Nanosponge Hydrogels: A Proton HR-MAS NMR Spectroscopy Study

The motion regimes of ibuprofen encapsulated in β-cyclodextrin nanosponges polymer network are investigated using pulsed-field-gradient spin-echo (PGSE) NMR technique. Synthesis, purification, drug loading, implementation of the NMR pulse sequence and data analysis to work out the mean square displacement of the drug at several observation times are described in detail.

We report a method for introduction, tracking and quantitative analysis of GFP expression in plant cells. This method utilizes a custom-designed robotics system for semi-continuous image collection from large numbers of samples, over time. We also demonstrate the use of ImageJ and ImageReady for analysis of image series.

An In Vitro Approach to Study Mitochondrial Dysfunction: A Cybrid Model

Transmitochondrial cybrids are hybrid cells obtained by fusing mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-depleted cells (rho0 cells) with cytoplasts (enucleated cells) derived from patients affected by mitochondrial disorders. They allow the determination of the nuclear or mitochondrial origin of the disease, evaluation of biochemical activity, and confirmation of the pathogenetic role of mtDNA-related variants.

There are many research methods available to psychologists in their efforts to understand, describe, and explain behavior and the cognitive and biological processes that underlie it. In 2011, the New York Times published a feature story on Krista and Tatiana Hogan, Canadian twin girls. These particular twins are unique because Krista and Tatiana are conjoined twins, connected at the head. There is evidence that the two girls are connected in a part of the brain called the thalamus, which is a...
