Plasmon Propagation Analysis

Plasmon propagation analysis is the study of how collective electron oscillations, known as plasmons, travel through or along materials, providing insight into nanoscale electromagnetic behavior. At a metal-dielectric interface, incident light can couple to the metal’s conduction electrons, producing surface plasmon polaritons whose propagation depends on wavelength, material properties, geometry, and boundary conditions; simulations and measurements can characterize their dispersion, confinement, loss, and interaction with nearby structures. In engineering, this analysis supports the design of optical sensors, waveguides, modulators, antennas, and other nanophotonic devices, helping optimize field enhancement, signal transmission, and device performance.

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)

2023

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is the underlying optical phenomenon behind label-free biosensors to evaluate the molecular affinity, kinetics, specificity, and concentration of biomolecules. In SPR, biomolecular interactions occur on a biosensor made of a thin layer of metal on a prism. Real-time interactions of biomolecules can be monitored by measuring the changes of light reflected off the underside of the metal. This video describes the basic concepts of SPR and how it is used to analyze...
