Hiv Integrase Inhibitors

HIV integrase inhibitors are antiretroviral drugs that block integrase, an HIV enzyme essential for inserting viral DNA into the genome of an infected host cell, thereby interrupting a central step in viral replication. After reverse transcription produces viral DNA, integrase processes its ends and catalyzes strand transfer into host chromosomal DNA; these medicines bind the enzyme’s active site and prevent integration. Used as components of combination antiretroviral therapy, integrase inhibitors can reduce viral load and support immune recovery. Their potency, tolerability, drug interactions, and potential for resistance guide HIV treatment and ongoing antiviral research.

2025

This video demonstrates an assay to evaluate the effectiveness of oral combined antiretroviral therapy (oral cART) in a human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1)-infected humanized mouse model. A combination of drugs targeting HIV-1, including nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and integrase strand transfer inhibitors, is administered along with a nutritional supplement and antibiotics. Following the consumption of this mixture by the humanized mice infected with HIV-1, the effective...
