Rapid Screening

Rapid screening is a fast, preliminary approach for identifying a condition, pathogen, or immune response in many samples, helping guide timely follow-up and intervention. In immunology and infection research, it uses streamlined assays that detect microbial antigens or nucleic acids, or measure host antibodies and other immune markers, often by producing a visible or instrument-read signal within a short time. These methods support early detection, surveillance, outbreak investigation, and prioritization of specimens for confirmatory testing. Although rapid screening may trade some sensitivity or specificity for speed, it can accelerate clinical and public-health decisions and reveal patterns of infection across populations.

A protocol for small molecular drug screening based on in-situ synthesis of ultrasmall fluorescent gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) using drug-loaded protein as template is presented. This method is simple to determine the binding affinity of drugs to a target protein by a visible fluorescent signal emitted from the protein-templated Au NCs.

CRISPR-Cas technologies have revolutionized the field of genome editing. However, finding and isolating the desired germline edit remains a major bottleneck. Therefore, this protocol describes a robust method for quickly screening F0 CRISPR-injected zebrafish sperm for germline edits using standard PCR, restriction digest, and gel electrophoresis techniques.
