Behavioral Test Battery

A behavioral test battery is a standardized set of complementary assessments used to measure multiple aspects of behavior, making it valuable for characterizing neurological function and treatment effects in medicine. It combines tasks that quantify domains such as locomotion, anxiety-like behavior, learning, memory, sensory responses, or social interaction under controlled conditions, allowing researchers to compare patterns across subjects rather than relying on a single outcome. In preclinical research, these batteries help identify behavioral phenotypes associated with disease models and evaluate whether candidate therapies improve function or produce adverse effects. Their integrated results support more rigorous interpretation of nervous-system disorders and guide the development of clinically relevant interventions.

Behavioral testing is used in pre-clinical trials to assess the phenotypic effects of a disease or treatment on an animal's wellbeing. In order to globally assess motor functioning, we selected tests for general locomotion, muscular strength, and coordination: the open field test, the mesh test, and the rotarod test, respectively.

A battery is a galvanic cell that is used as a source of electrical power for specific applications. Modern batteries exist in a multitude of forms to accommodate various applications, from tiny button batteries such as those that power wristwatches to the very large batteries used to supply backup energy to municipal power grids. Some batteries are designed for single-use applications and cannot be recharged (primary cells), while others are based on conveniently reversible cell reactions that...

We describe the use of synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques to probe details of intercalation/deintercalation processes in electrode materials for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries. Both in situ and ex situ experiments are used to understand structural behavior relevant to the operation of...
