Brain Metastasis Model

A brain metastasis model is an experimental system that reproduces how cancer cells spread to, enter, and grow within the brain, helping researchers study a major complication of advanced cancer. These models may use cultured cells, three-dimensional systems, or animal models to examine tumor cell invasion, interactions with the blood-brain barrier, and communication with the brain microenvironment. In medicine, brain metastasis models support research into metastatic mechanisms, biomarker discovery, treatment response, and therapeutic resistance. They also help investigators evaluate targeted drugs and combination therapies before clinical testing, improving understanding of disease progression and guiding the development of more effective patient-specific treatments.

The ability of metastatic clones to colonize distant sites depends on their proliferation capacity and/or their ability to survive in the host microenvironment without significant proliferation. Here, we present an animal model that allows quantitative visualization of both types of liver colonization by metastatic clones.
