Gastric Ultrasonography

Gastric ultrasonography is a bedside imaging technique that uses ultrasound to assess the stomach, its contents, and gastric emptying, providing clinically useful information when direct examination is not possible. A low-frequency transducer visualizes the gastric antrum in standardized positions, while the sonographic appearance and measured cross-sectional area of the stomach change with fluid, solid food, or an empty state; these findings can support qualitative and quantitative estimates of gastric volume. In medicine, clinicians use this approach to evaluate aspiration risk before anesthesia, guide perioperative decisions, and study gastrointestinal motility. Its noninvasive, repeatable nature also supports point-of-care assessment and clinical research.

Ultrasonography is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the body's internal structures. It is a non-invasive and safe procedure that does not involve the use of ionizing radiation, making it widely used in various medical fields. Ultrasonography is used to study heart function, blood flow in the neck or extremities, certain conditions such as gallbladder disease, and fetal growth and development. During an ultrasonography procedure, a handheld device called a...

This video describes a bariatric surgery-Roux-en-Y procedure. This involves the cutting of the jejunum- the middle portion of the intestine- to generate two intestinal limbs. The biliary limb is attached to the existing intestinal loop and the alimentary limb is attached to the stomach, creating a gastric bypass. The gastric bypass created here helps to decrease the nutrient uptake and efficiently reduces body weight.
