Haptic Performance Measurement

Haptic performance measurement is the quantitative assessment of how accurately and effectively a person, device, or simulated system detects, produces, or responds to touch and force. It evaluates variables such as force accuracy, position tracking, response latency, movement precision, and task completion by comparing measured interactions with defined targets under controlled conditions. In medicine, these measures help assess surgical simulators, robotic instruments, rehabilitation systems, and prosthetic or assistive devices. Standardized haptic metrics can reveal limitations in tactile feedback and motor control, support skills training, guide device development, and provide objective outcomes for evaluating clinical technologies and patient performance.
