Non-gated Ct Scans

Non-gated CT scans are computed tomography examinations acquired without synchronizing image capture to a patient’s cardiac or respiratory cycle, providing rapid cross-sectional views of anatomy. During scanning, an X-ray tube and detector rotate around the body, and computer algorithms reconstruct attenuation measurements into images; because acquisition is not timed to physiologic motion, moving structures may show motion-related blurring. In medicine, non-gated CT is useful for evaluating the lungs, abdomen, bones, trauma, and other conditions when speed and broad anatomic coverage are priorities. Understanding its strengths and limitations helps clinicians select appropriate imaging protocols and recognize when gated techniques may provide additional information.

This paper details the fabrication process of a gate-tunable graphene device, decorated with Coulomb impurities for scanning tunneling microscopy studies. Mapping the spatially dependent electronic structure of graphene in the presence of charged impurities unveils the unique behavior of its relativistic charge carriers in response to a local Coulomb potential.
