Simultaneous Recording Stimulation

Simultaneous recording stimulation is a neuroscience approach that delivers controlled input to neural tissue while recording its electrical or physiological activity at the same time. By synchronizing stimulation with measurements such as neuronal firing, field potentials, or behavioral responses, researchers can examine how neural circuits respond in real time and distinguish causal effects from correlations. This method supports investigations of circuit connectivity, signal processing, plasticity, and brain-behavior relationships. It is also valuable for evaluating neuromodulation strategies and refining experimental models of neurological function, dysfunction, and potential therapeutic intervention.

2025

This video demonstrates a method to assess functional neuromuscular junctions. Using a bioreactor containing muscle tissue and motor neurons, along with fluorescent microscopy, the light-sensitive channels in the neurons are stimulated to generate electrical signals, causing muscle fiber contractions.

2013

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that has shown initial therapeutic effects in several neurological conditions. The main mechanism underlying these therapeutic effects is the modulation of cortical excitability. Therefore, online monitoring of cortical excitability would help guide stimulation parameters and optimize its therapeutic effects. In the present article we review the use of a novel device that combines simultaneous tDCS and...
