Xenon Lamp

A xenon lamp is a high-intensity light source that produces bright, broad-spectrum illumination by passing an electrical arc through pressurized xenon gas. Its output resembles natural sunlight and can be directed, filtered, or wavelength-selected to deliver controlled light for fluorescence excitation, photochemical uncaging, and visual stimulation. In neuroscience, xenon lamps support microscopy and electrophysiology experiments by enabling detection of fluorescent indicators, activation of light-sensitive probes, and precise control of sensory stimuli. Their stable, powerful illumination helps researchers measure neuronal activity, investigate circuit function, and connect cellular signals with behavior.

2012

The production of hyperpolarized xenon by means of spin exchange optical pumping (SEOP) is described. This method yields a ~10000-fold enhancement of the nuclear spin polarization of Xe-129 and has applications in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. Examples of gas phase and solution state experiments are given.

Validation of Hyperbaric Pressure System with Xenon Anesthesia for Drosophila melanogaster

2026

Gases that seem harmless at atmospheric pressure can induce behaviors like narcosis under hyperbaric conditions. Conventional hyperbaric pressure chambers are costly and labor-intensive. This study presents a straightforward, low-cost method for examining xenon's effects on Drosophila melanogaster at moderate pressures below 4 atm.

2015

Diagnosis of Eimeria infection in chickens remains demanding. Parasite morphology- and host pathology-led approaches are commonly inconclusive, while molecular approaches based on PCR have proven demanding in cost and expertise. The aim of this protocol is to establish loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) as a straightforward molecular diagnostic for eimerian infection.

The manuscript presents a detailed protocol for using hyperpolarized Xenon-129 chemical shift saturation recovery (CSSR) to trace pulmonary gas exchange, assess the apparent alveolar septal wall thickness, and measure the surface-to-volume ratio. The method has the potential to diagnose and monitor lung diseases.

2018

This paper reports the protocol for a rapid identification assay for Bemisia tabaci based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology. The protocol requires minimal laboratory training and can, therefore, be implemented on-site at points of entry for plant imports such as seaports and airports.
