Elaboration Likelihood Model

The Elaboration Likelihood Model is a psychological framework that explains how people process persuasive messages and why attitudes sometimes change deeply and sometimes only temporarily. It proposes two routes to persuasion: the central route, which involves careful evaluation of message quality and supporting evidence, and the peripheral route, which relies on cues such as source credibility, attractiveness, emotion, or repetition when motivation or ability to think is limited. The model helps researchers analyze attitude formation, resistance to persuasion, and behavior change in health communication, advertising, education, and political messaging. It also clarifies when persuasive effects are likely to persist and guide future decisions.

Elaborative Rehearsals

2025

Elaborative rehearsal is a crucial cognitive strategy that strengthens information encoding in long-term memory by making meaningful connections between new data and pre-existing knowledge. This approach contrasts with maintenance rehearsal, which involves simple repetition without delving into the significance of the information. While maintenance rehearsal might temporarily keep information active in short-term memory, it is less effective for long-term retention. The effectiveness of...

This paper provides a technique for manufacturing chip-based supercapacitors using an inkjet printer. Methodologies are described in detail to synthesize inks, adjust software parameters, and analyze the electrochemical results of the manufactured supercapacitor.

Determining the Likelihood of Variant Pathogenicity Using Amino Acid-level Signal-to-Noise Analysis of Genetic Variation

Amino acid-level signal-to-noise analysis determines the prevalence of genetic variation at a given amino acid position normalized to background genetic variation of a given population. This allows for identification of variant "hotspots" within a protein sequence (signal) that rises above the frequency of rare variants found in a population (noise).

Persuasion: Motivational Factors Influencing Attitude Change

2023

Source: William Brady & Jay Van Bavel—New York University Decades of social psychological research sought to understand a fundamental question that pervades our social life including politics, marketing and public health; namely, how are people persuaded to change their attitudes towards an idea, person, or object? Traditional work found that there are key factors that influence whether persuasion is successful or not including the source of the persuasive message ("source"), and the...

Here, we present a systematic approach for developing physiologically relevant, sensitive and specific in vivo assays for interpreting variation in human pathology. Transient genetic manipulation via microinjection of WT and mutant human mRNA and morpholino (MO) antisense oligonucleotides harness the tractability of the developing zebrafish embryo to rapidly assay pathogenic mutations, especially, but not exclusively, in the context of human developmental disorders.
