Orthogonal Click Chemistries

Orthogonal click chemistries are sets of highly selective, mutually compatible reactions that enable multiple molecular labeling or conjugation events in the same sample without cross-reactivity. They work by pairing complementary chemical handles that form covalent bonds rapidly under mild, often aqueous and biologically compatible conditions while remaining unreactive toward one another and native biomolecules. In bioengineering, these reactions support multiplexed imaging, site-specific protein modification, biomolecule immobilization, hydrogel fabrication, and targeted delivery. Their selectivity and modularity allow researchers to build complex materials and track distinct cellular or molecular components with improved spatial and temporal control.

Orthogonal Trajectories

2026

Orthogonal trajectories describe the geometric relationship between two families of curves that intersect each other at right angles. One illustrative case involves a family of parabolas that open sideways along the x-axis. These curves share a common shape but differ by a scaling parameter, resulting in a set of curves that all pass through the origin and widen at different rates.Determining Orthogonal TrajectoriesTo identify the orthogonal trajectories for these parabolas, the first step...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Neal Abrams — SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Transition metals are found everywhere from vitamin supplements to electroplating baths. Transition metals also make up the pigments in many paints and compose all minerals. Typically, transition metals are found in the cationic form since they readily oxidize, or lose electrons, and are surrounded by electron donors called ligands. These ligands do not form ionic or covalent bonds with the metal center,...
