4d Cardiac Imaging

4D cardiac imaging is a visualization approach that captures the heart’s three-dimensional structure as it changes over time, providing a dynamic view of cardiac anatomy and function. By collecting sequential images and organizing them across the cardiac cycle, the method reconstructs moving heart structures and reveals relationships between morphology, motion, and blood flow. In developmental biology, 4D cardiac imaging helps researchers track heart formation, chamber development, and functional changes in embryos or engineered cardiac tissues. These observations can clarify mechanisms underlying congenital heart abnormalities and support evaluation of developmental models, disease processes, and potential therapeutic strategies.

Multi-modality imaging is a valuable approach for studying bacterial colonization in small animal models. This protocol outlines infection of mice with bioluminescent Citrobacter rodentium and the longitudinal monitoring of bacterial colonization using composite 3D diffuse light imaging tomography with μCT imaging to create a 4D movie of C. rodentium infection.

Source: Frederick W. Damen and Craig J. Goergen, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana In this video, high field, small-bore magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with physiological monitoring is demonstrated to acquire gated cine loops of the murine cardiovascular system. This procedure provides a basis for assessing left-ventricular function, visualizing vascular networks, and quantifying motion of organs due to respiration. Comparable small animal...

Cellular viability depends on timely and efficient management of protein misfolding. Here we describe a method for visualizing the different potential fates of a misfolded protein: refolding, degradation, or sequestration in inclusions. We demonstrate the use of a folding sensor, Ubc9ts, for monitoring proteostasis and aggregation quality control in live cells using 4D microscopy.

The sensitivity gain inherent to ultrahigh field magnetic resonance holds promise for high spatial resolution imaging of the heart. Here, we describe a protocol customized for functional cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) at 7 Tesla using an advanced multi-channel radio-frequency coil, magnetic field shimming and a triggering concept.
