Polystyrene Nanospheres

Polystyrene nanospheres are spherical polymer particles with nanoscale dimensions, valued in engineering because their size, surface chemistry, and optical properties can be tailored for controlled interactions with light, fluids, and other materials. They are commonly produced by polymerizing styrene in a dispersed liquid phase, where initiators, surfactants, and reaction conditions influence nucleation, particle growth, and colloidal stability. Functional groups or surface coatings can further modify their charge and binding behavior. These particles serve as model colloids, calibration standards, components of sensors and photonic structures, and building blocks for coatings, microfluidic systems, and engineered nanocomposites.
