Micropipette Manipulation

Micropipette manipulation is a microscale technique that uses a fine glass or polymer pipette to position, transfer, aspirate, inject, or mechanically handle cells and other small biological materials. Under microscopic observation, controlled pressure differences and precise movement of the pipette regulate fluid flow and contact with the target, while pipette geometry and tip size influence manipulation forces. In bioengineering, the method supports single-cell handling, embryo and organoid manipulation, microinjection, cell pairing, and the assembly of engineered tissues. By enabling localized, minimally disruptive control, micropipette manipulation helps researchers study cell mechanics, deliver biomolecules, and develop reproducible microscale workflows.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

Here we describe a quick and simple method to measure cell stiffness. The general principle of this approach is to measure membrane deformation in response to well-defined negative pressure applied through a micropipette to the cell surface. This method provides a powerful tool to study biomechanical properties of substrate-attached cells.

Manipulating an Independent Variable through Embodiment

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In any experiment, the researcher attempts to manipulate participants in one group to have different thoughts, experiences, or feelings than the other groups in the study. Some manipulations are overt, while others can be quite subtle. Embodiment is a growing research area focused on the theory that subtle physical experiences can unconsciously influence a person’s thoughts. For example if a...

GIS manipulation and analysis functions are vital for decision-making and planning. These activities range from data retrieval tasks, such as selecting information based on specific criteria, to advanced analytical techniques that address complex spatial problems. One critical GIS analysis method is overlaying, which combines multiple data layers to examine impacts. For example, overlaying a river-dammed lake boundary with road networks can identify affected infrastructure. Another common...
