Cell Heterogeneity Analysis

Cell heterogeneity analysis is the study of differences among individual cells within a population, revealing variation that bulk measurements can obscure. Researchers distinguish cell subtypes and states by measuring features such as gene expression, protein abundance, morphology, or functional behavior, often using flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing, imaging, or computational clustering. These methods help identify rare cell populations, trace developmental trajectories, characterize tumor diversity, and assess responses to drugs or environmental signals. By linking cellular variation to biological function, cell heterogeneity analysis improves understanding of disease mechanisms and supports more precise approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and tissue engineering.

Single-Cell Western Blotting to Determine Cell Heterogeneity

2025

The video describes a single-cell western blotting technique that identifies the composition of individual cells captured on a single-cell western blotting chip in a heterogeneous suspension. The technique detects the fluorescence intensity of the fluorophore tagged to a protein marker specific to the target cell.

Study Glial Cell Heterogeneity Influence on Axon Growth Using a New Coculture Method

In this protocol, we described a new method to study the influence of glial cell heterogeneity on axon growth with an in vitro co-culture system. Rat cortical glial cells were cultured to confluence and cocultured with highly purified rat dorsal root ganglia neurons. Different glial cell influence on neurons adhesion and axon growth was compared directly in the same culture. This method provides a new way to directly study the glial cell heterogeneity influence on neuron adhesion and axon...

Here we present techniques to measure red cell deformability and cellular heterogeneity by ektacytometry. These techniques are applicable to general investigations of red cell deformability and specific investigations of blood diseases characterized by the presence of both rigid and deformable red cells in circulation, such as sickle cell anemia.
