Metal Oxide Nanoparticles

Metal oxide nanoparticles are nanoscale particles composed of metal and oxygen, typically measuring less than 100 nanometers, whose size-dependent properties make them important materials in chemistry and nanoscience. Their behavior arises from a high surface-area-to-volume ratio, quantum and surface effects, and the chemical reactivity of surface sites, which can be tuned through composition, particle size, shape, and synthesis conditions. Chemical methods such as precipitation, sol-gel processing, and thermal treatment control nucleation, growth, crystallinity, and surface structure. These nanoparticles support applications in catalysis, sensors, photocatalysis, energy storage, environmental remediation, and antimicrobial materials, while characterization of their structure and reactivity guides the design of more effective technologies.
