Difluoromethane Laser Medium

A difluoromethane laser medium is gaseous difluoromethane (CH2F2) used as the active gain material in a molecular laser, where its quantized energy levels enable coherent light generation. When infrared radiation pumps the molecules, they reach excited vibrational-rotational states; population inversion between selected molecular levels then allows stimulated emission, often at longer-wavelength far-infrared transitions. This system links molecular structure and spectroscopy with laser physics by converting energy-level dynamics into a directional, coherent beam. Difluoromethane lasers can provide specialized radiation sources for high-resolution spectroscopy, investigations of molecular energy transfer, and studies requiring tunable or far-infrared light.

2016

A protocol to detect and automate mode locking in a pre-adjusted nonlinear polarization rotation fiber laser is presented. The detection of a sudden change in the output polarization state when mode locking occurs is used to command the alignment of an intra-cavity polarization controller in order to find mode-locking conditions.
