Endoscopic Dilation

Endoscopic dilation is a minimally invasive procedure that widens narrowed sections of the gastrointestinal tract to restore the passage of food, fluids, or instruments. During endoscopy, a clinician guides a balloon or tapered dilator through the mouth or anus to the stricture, then expands it gradually to stretch the scarred, inflamed, or otherwise constricted tissue. This technique can relieve swallowing difficulty, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, or obstructive symptoms caused by conditions such as esophageal strictures, surgical anastomoses, or intestinal narrowing. It also helps clinicians evaluate and manage gastrointestinal obstruction while potentially reducing the need for more invasive surgery.

Dilated cardiomyopathy, or DCM, is a progressive myocardial disorder characterized by ventricular chamber dilation and contractile dysfunction.EtiologyVarious factors can cause DCM, including hypertension and heavy alcohol intake, which contribute to the weakening and enlargement of the heart muscle. Viral infections, such as Coxsackievirus B, adenoviruses, and influenza, can lead to DCM by causing inflammation and damage to heart tissue. Certain chemotherapeutic agents, including daunorubicin,...

Source: Wang, L., et.al. Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation. J. Vis. Exp.(2023)This video demonstrates a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure to treat lumbar disc herniation by removing the protruded nucleus pulposus and ruptured annulus fibrosus. The technique decompresses the affected nerve root, alleviates pain, and restores nerve function through targeted tissue resection and radiofrequency modulation.
