Endoscopic Ultrasound

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a minimally invasive imaging technique that combines endoscopy with high-frequency ultrasound to visualize the gastrointestinal wall and nearby organs, making it valuable for clinical diagnosis and staging. During the procedure, an ultrasound transducer mounted on the endoscope produces detailed images as it is positioned close to structures such as the pancreas, bile ducts, lymph nodes, and mediastinum. EUS can identify lesions, assess tumor depth and vascular involvement, and guide fine-needle aspiration or biopsy through the gastrointestinal tract. Its close-range imaging and tissue-sampling capability support cancer evaluation, pancreatobiliary disease assessment, and selected therapeutic procedures.

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and FibroScan are valuable diagnostic tools in gastroenterology and hepatology, each with specific applications and techniques. Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS): Technological Integration: EUS is a sophisticated integration of optical endoscopy and ultrasonography. The endoscope visualizes the mucosal surface directly, while the ultrasound component penetrates deeper to visualize organs and structures beyond the gastrointestinal wall. Image Formation: The ultrasound...

Using the Endoscope for Endobronchial Ultrasound in the Esophagus

Transesophageal ultrasound (EUS-B) is a safe and feasible procedure using the echoendobronchoscope (EBUS) in esophagus and stomach. After identifying six anatomical landmarks, additional structures can be identified and biopsied, sparing subsequent diagnostic sessions. Thus, EUS-B is an ideal continuation of bronchoscopy and EBUS in diagnosing lung cancer and other diseases.

We describe a new ultrasound-based vector tissue Doppler imaging technique to measure muscle contraction velocity, strain and strain rate with sub-millisecond temporal resolution during dynamic activities. This approach provides complementary measurements of dynamic muscle function and could lead to a better understanding of mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal disorders.

Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation

Source: Wang, L., et.al. Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation. J. Vis. Exp.(2023)This video demonstrates a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure to treat lumbar disc herniation by removing the protruded nucleus pulposus and ruptured annulus fibrosus. The technique decompresses the affected nerve root, alleviates pain, and restores nerve function through targeted tissue resection and radiofrequency modulation.
