Deep Ultraviolet Leds

Deep ultraviolet (DUV) LEDs are semiconductor light sources that emit ultraviolet radiation, typically at wavelengths below 300 nanometers, for applications requiring compact, mercury-free illumination. In an aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) device, electrical current injects electrons and holes into an active region, where their recombination releases photons with energies determined by the semiconductor band gap. Engineering the alloy composition, device layers, contacts, and heat management controls emission wavelength, efficiency, and operating stability. DUV LEDs support surface and water disinfection, fluorescence sensing, spectroscopy, photolithography, and industrial processing, while ongoing development aims to improve output power, lifetime, and energy efficiency.

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy is one of the most popular analytical techniques because it is very versatile and able to detect nearly every molecule. With UV-Vis spectroscopy, the UV-Vis light is passed through a sample and the transmittance of light by a sample is measured. From the transmittance (T), the absorbance can be calculated as A=-log (T). An absorbance spectrum is obtained that shows the absorbance of a...

Ultraviolet and Visible (UV–Vis) Spectroscopy: Overview

2024

Ultraviolet–visible (UV–visible or UV–Vis) spectroscopy is an analytical technique that investigates the interaction between matter and UV–Vis light within the electromagnetic spectrum. This method is widely used for its versatility, simplicity, and relatively quick data acquisition, making it valuable for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. When UV–Vis radiation passes through a material, molecules absorb light depending on the energy required for electronic transitions. As a result...
