Naphthalene Formaldehyde

Naphthalene formaldehyde is a family of synthetic condensation resins produced from naphthalene-derived compounds and formaldehyde, valued for their ability to modify material performance in engineering applications. Typically, sulfonated naphthalene compounds react with formaldehyde under acidic conditions to form polymeric chains that can be neutralized into water-soluble dispersants. In cement systems, these molecules adsorb onto particle surfaces and create electrostatic repulsion, dispersing cement grains and improving flow while reducing the water required for workable concrete. Naphthalene formaldehyde condensates are therefore used in concrete admixtures, pigment and dye dispersions, and other formulations where controlled viscosity, stability, and particle distribution are important.

Microwave-assisted intramolecular dehydrogenative Diels-Alder (DA) reactions provide concise access to functionalized cyclopenta[b]naphthalene building blocks. The utility of this methodology is demonstrated by one-step conversion of the dehydrogenative DA cycloadducts into novel solvatochromic fluorescent dyes via Buchwald-Hartwig palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

The plasticity of nuclear architecture is controlled by dynamic epigenetic mechanisms including non-coding RNAs, DNA methylation, nucleosome repositioning as well as histone composition and modification. Here we describe a Formaldehyde-Assisted Isolation of Regulatory Elements (FAIRE) protocol which allows the determination of chromatin accessibility in a reproducible, inexpensive, and straightforward manner.

Source: Lara Al Hariri and Ahmed Basabrain at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, MA, USA Determining the Melting Points of Naphthalene, Urea, and an Unknown MixtureExpand In this experiment, you will measure the melting point range of two known substances, naphthalene and urea, by observing the melting phenomenon during heating. You'll then analyze a mixture of urea and an unknown substance to observe how the unknown impurity affects the melting point range. Put on a lab coat,...
