Optical Switching

Optical switching is the controlled routing, modulation, or interruption of light between optical paths, enabling signals to move without conversion to electrical form. In an optical switch, an external control changes a material or device property, such as refractive index, absorption, or phase, so light is redirected through waveguides, reflected by movable microstructures, or coupled between channels; implementations include electro-optic, thermo-optic, and mechanical designs. Engineers use optical switching in fiber-optic communication networks, data centers, photonic circuits, and sensor systems to support rapid reconfiguration, wavelength management, and scalable signal processing. Performance depends on switching speed, insertion loss, crosstalk, power consumption, and reliability.

Switching of BJT

2024

Switching behavior in Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) is a fundamental aspect utilized in various electronic circuits, particularly for digital logic applications like switches and amplifiers. In a typical switching circuit, a BJT alternates between cut-off and saturation modes, corresponding to the "off" and "on" states, respectively, thus behaving like an ideal switch. Cut-off Mode ("Off" State): In this state, both the emitter-base and collector-base junctions are reverse-biased. The...

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.

Measuring the Switch Cost of Smartphone Use While Walking

2020

This study design measures the task-switching cost of using a smartphone while walking. Participants undergo two experimental conditions: a control condition (walking) and a multitasking condition (texting while walking). Participants switch between these tasks and a direction determining task. EEG data as well as behavioral measures are recorded.

Induction and Assessment of Class Switch Recombination in Purified Murine B Cells

Following antigen exposure, subpopulations of activated B cells undergo a process known as class switch recombination (CSR) to produce antibody isotypes with distinct effector functions. The protocol outlined in this report explains how CSR can be induced and analyzed in vitro for the purposes of studying B cell function.
