Sieve Shaking

Sieve shaking is a particle-size separation method that classifies granular materials by passing them through stacked sieves with progressively smaller mesh openings. During controlled mechanical agitation, particles move across the sieve surfaces, allowing smaller particles to pass through while larger particles remain retained; weighing each fraction reveals the material’s particle-size distribution. In engineering, sieve shaking supports aggregate grading, soil and powder characterization, quality control, and process design. The results help evaluate material uniformity, predict handling and compaction behavior, and select appropriate processing conditions for construction, manufacturing, and research applications.

2015

Electrical Penetration Graph (EPG) is a well-established technique for studying the feeding behavior of stylet-bearing insects. Here we show a new application of EPG as a non-invasive tool for the acquisition of intracellular electrophysiology recordings of sieve elements (SEs), the cells that form the phloem vasculature in plants.

Sieve Analysis and Grading Curves

2024

Sieve analysis is a method used to determine the particle size distribution of aggregate materials. This process involves the following steps: The required quantity of dried sample of aggregate is weighed. The weighed aggregates are sieved through a set of sieves with square openings arranged in descending order of aperture size, with the largest mesh on top (Column 1 of Table 1). The stack of sieves is shaken or vibrated to facilitate the sorting of particles by size. After sieving for a...
