Granulated Activated Carbon

Granulated activated carbon (GAC) is a porous carbon material used to remove contaminants from water, air, and other environmental media through adsorption. Its extensive internal surface area and pore structure attract and retain dissolved or gaseous compounds, including organic pollutants, chlorine, and odor-causing substances, as contaminated fluid passes through a packed bed. In environmental treatment systems, GAC filters help improve drinking-water quality, treat wastewater, control industrial emissions, and remediate contaminated groundwater. Performance depends on contaminant properties, carbon characteristics, contact time, and competing substances, while spent carbon may be replaced or regenerated for continued use.

The goal of the present protocol was to develop a method that will allow functional genomic analyses of mast cell secretion. The protocol is based on quantitative assessment of the release of a fluorescent reporter gene cotrasfected with the gene of interest and real time analyses of the secretory granule's morphology.

Modeling Neuronal Injury in Mouse Primary Cerebellar Granule Neurons

2025

This video demonstrates the generation of a neuronal injury model in mouse primary cerebellar granule neurons. It outlines the steps involved in inducing neuronal injury using NMDA, an excitatory neurotransmitter receptor agonist, and glycine, a co-agonist. NMDA and glycine bind to specific neuronal receptors, causing their overstimulation and resulting in a massive intracellular calcium influx, which leads to neuronal cell damage and death.
