Fluorescent Antibody Staining

Fluorescent antibody staining is a laboratory method that uses antibodies tagged with fluorescent dyes to detect and visualize specific antigens in cells, tissues, or microorganisms. The labeled antibody binds its target through antigen-antibody recognition, and illumination at an appropriate excitation wavelength causes the fluorophore to emit light, revealing the antigen’s location; direct and indirect staining formats can be used. In immunology and infection research, the technique helps identify pathogens, characterize immune cell populations, map protein distribution, and assess cellular responses. Fluorescence microscopy and image analysis can provide qualitative or quantitative evidence for diagnosis, host-pathogen studies, and evaluation of immune mechanisms.
