Serotype Iii Gbs

Serotype III GBS (group B Streptococcus) is a clinically important capsular variant of Streptococcus agalactiae, a bacterium that can cause invasive disease in newborns and adults. Its serotype-specific polysaccharide capsule, including sialic acid residues, helps the organism resist complement-mediated opsonization and phagocytic clearance, supporting persistence and invasion after transmission, including during childbirth. Serotype III is strongly associated with neonatal sepsis and meningitis, making accurate identification important for surveillance, risk assessment, and prevention. Studying its capsule and host interactions informs maternal screening, antibiotic prophylaxis, vaccine development, and research into immune defenses against invasive GBS infection.

Here, we present a protocol to generate a proof-of-principle divalent adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector Ad5/H5-HVR1-KWAS-HVR5-His6 by utilizing the Antigen Capsid-Incorporation strategy. This vector was demonstrated to exhibit qualitative fitness, the capability to escape Ad5-positive sera in vitro, and the antigenicity as well as immunogenicity to the incorporated antigens.

Synthesis Of A Ti(III) Metallocene Using Schlenk Line Technique

2023

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University Inorganic chemists often work with highly air- and water-sensitive compounds. The two most common and practical methods for air-free synthesis utilize either Schlenk lines or gloveboxes. This experiment will demonstrate how to perform simple manipulations on a Schlenk line with a focus on solvent preparation and transfer. Through the synthesis of a reactive Ti(III) metallocene complex, we will demonstrate a new, simple...

2018

Here we describe the delivery of microRNA using a recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 9 in a mouse model of a neuromuscular disease. A single peripheral administration in mice resulted in sustained miRNA overexpression in muscle and motor neurons, providing an opportunity to study miRNA function and therapeutic potential in vivo.
