Set Membership

Set membership is the fundamental relation that states whether an object belongs to a set, providing a precise basis for grouping and classification in mathematics. It is represented by the symbol ∈, as in x ∈ A, while x ∉ A indicates nonmembership; the relation can be evaluated from a set’s listed elements, defining rule, or predicate. Membership statements support set operations such as union, intersection, and complement, and they appear in proofs, logic, functions, probability, and discrete mathematics. Understanding membership also clarifies nested sets, subset relationships, and the formal language used to describe mathematical structures.

Humans are very diverse and although we share many similarities, we also have many differences. The social groups we belong to help form our identities (Tajfel, 1974). These differences may be difficult for some people to reconcile, which may lead to prejudice toward people who are different. Prejudice is a negative attitude and feeling toward an individual based solely on one’s membership in a particular social group (Allport, 1954; Brown, 2010). Prejudice is common against people who are...

We present a protocol for a behavioral analysis of adults (ages 18 to 70-year-old) engaged in learning processes, undertaking tasks designed for Self-Regulated Learning (SRL). The participants, university teachers and students, and adults from the University of Experience, were monitored with eye-tracking devices and the data were analyzed with data-mining techniques.

Here, we present a protocol for the behavioral analysis of a project-based learning methodology for health sciences students (20-56 years old). The protocol facilitates the comparison of the participants' performance in e-Learning versus blended-Learning (b-Learning) through a monitoring tool. The results are analyzed using Educational Data Mining and qualitative techniques.

Network analysis was applied to evaluate the association of various ecological microbial communities, such as soil, water and rhizosphere. Presented here is a protocol on how to use the WGCNA algorithm to analyze different co-occurrence networks that may occur in the microbial communities due to different ecological environments.
