Adhesive Plaster Dressing

An adhesive plaster dressing is a sterile or clean wound-covering material with an adhesive backing that secures a protective pad over the skin, helping shield minor injuries during healing. Its adhesive layer anchors the dressing to surrounding skin, while the central pad separates the wound from friction, dirt, and external contact and may absorb small amounts of blood or exudate. In medicine, adhesive plaster dressings are commonly used for superficial cuts, abrasions, punctures, and protection of injection sites. Selecting an appropriate size, material, and adhesion level supports wound protection while reducing irritation and allowing timely inspection for signs of infection or delayed healing.

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT Central venous access devices (CVAD), commonly known as central lines or central catheters, are large-bore intravenous (IV) catheters that are introduced into the central circulation. Typically, CVADs terminate in the superior vena cava, just outside of the right atrium of the heart, but they may also terminate in any one of the great veins (i.e., aorta, inferior vena cava, brachiocephalic...

Abdominal adhesions that form after surgery are a major cause of pain, infertility, and hospitalization and reoperation for small bowel obstruction. Our surgical procedure for creating abdominal adhesions in mice is a reliable tool to study the mechanisms underlying the formation of adhesions.

Adhesion

Adhesion occurs when one type of molecule is attracted to a different molecule. Water exhibits adhesive properties in the presence of polar surfaces, such as glass or cellulose in plants. For instance, when water is poured into a glass, the positively charged hydrogen molecules of water are more attracted to the negatively charged oxygen molecules in the silica than to the oxygen in neighboring water molecules. Capillary action is a result of water’s adhesive tendencies. When a narrow glass...

CT-guided Preoperative Localization of Pulmonary Nodules Using a Glucose Test and Tissue Adhesive

This CT-guided protocol localizes ground-glass nodules preoperatively using tissue adhesive and a glucose test, which verifies needle placement and prevents airway injection-enhancing safety and distinguishing it from prior localization techniques.

Assay of Adhesion Under Shear Stress for the Study of T Lymphocyte-Adhesion Molecule Interactions

This flow adhesion assay provides a simple, high impact model of T cell-epithelial cell interactions. A syringe pump is used to generate shear stress, and confocal microscopy captures images for quantification. The goal of these studies is to effectively quantify T cell adhesion using flow conditions.
