Anti Cancer

Anticancer refers to therapies, interventions, and research strategies that prevent, slow, or eliminate cancer, a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and spread. These approaches work by damaging tumor-cell DNA, blocking growth and survival signals, inhibiting blood-vessel formation, or activating the immune system to recognize and destroy malignant cells; treatments may include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery. In medicine, anticancer care is selected according to tumor type, stage, molecular features, and patient factors, with the goals of controlling disease, reducing recurrence, extending survival, and improving quality of life while limiting harm to healthy tissue.

Here, we established a method for drug efficacy testing with surgical specimens of brain tumors, termed “tumor explant method”. With this method, we can evaluate drug efficacy without breaking the microenvironment of solid tumors. To validate reliability of this method, we describe representative data with our glioma specimen treated with the current first-line chemotherapeutic agent, temozolomide.

Resistance to cancer therapies contributes to disease progression and death. Determining the mechanistic underpinnings of resistance is crucial for improving therapeutic response. This manuscript details the protocol to generate taxane-resistant cell models of prostate cancer (PC) to help dissecting the pathways involved in progression to Docetaxel resistance in PC patients.

Isolation and Characterization of Neutrophils with Anti-Tumor Properties

Neutrophils play an important role not only in host defense against invading microorganisms, but are also involved in the immune surveillance of tumor cells. Here, we describe techniques related to the isolation of neutrophils with anti-tumor properties and methods for monitoring anti-tumor neutrophil function in vitro and in vivo.
